“It is hard to beat a person who never gives up.” -Babe Ruth
It is amazing to see some of the hard work, resilience and dedication put in by some kids. Especially when it comes to a sport, activity or hobby. I love to see anyone being passionate about something, but when kids do it, it’s truly something special.
I didn’t get into sports when I was younger, I have always inclined with the more artistic stuff, so I danced the majority of my adolescence. When I was a dancer, one of the most inspirational quotes I came across was “It’s not about how good you are but about how bad you want it.” And that really struck a chord with me and drove me to be greater than anyone ever thought I could be. When I first started, I was terrible, no I mean really terrible. I couldn’t clap and step at the same time, I looked like I was swatting flies most of the time, and forget any type of flexibility as touching my toes was completely out of the question but I worked twice as hard, and within a year I was standing next to girls who had been dancing their entire lives, and within 3 years I was competing against some of the most amazing dancers in the country (no, really, some names you would even recognize from the hit tv show “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE”). And these girls have reminded me of that part of myself. I know that they will continue to work hard, play hard and have fun while doing it because let’s face it, that is the most important part of it. If you’re not having fun, then you shouldn’t be doing it. Talent will only get you so far, you need heart and dedication. THAT. That is what makes all the difference.
And these girls have the greatest support network also. No drama. No nonsense. Parents that are willing to go above and beyond for these kids. That is exceptionally hard to find, and harder even to keep. I was so surprised with the amount of overwhelming love and support I felt from the parents just at the photoshoot alone. I’m not much of a sports person but I do love watching these girls play, they inspire me. Even if I don’t really know what’s going on. THROW THE BALL! WIN THE SPORTS! That’s me. LOL.
